Recipes in Spanish Language

Reading recipes in Spanish language is a great way to improve your vocabulary, see Spanish grammar working in action (particularly the “imperative” or “command” tense) and enjoy some wonderfully delicious food at the same time! The real joy of recipes in Spanish is that they encompass a large variety of regional cuisines and different tastes. From the various regional delicacies throughout Spain, to the vastly diverse menus of each of the Latin American countries, there is so much great food and cooking to experience.

One of the most classic dishes from Spain is, of course, Paella. Following Paella recipes in Spanish language will definitely broaden your Spanish vocabulary as this dish will generally contain a wide variety of ingredients. It’s delicious, easy to make and takes advantages of the beautiful fresh ingredients (especially seafood) that can be found in Spain. OK, you wanted recipes in Spanish language... Here is a Paella recipe (with the names of the ingredients in Spanish) for you to try:

Ingredients (ingredientes)

Toss the chopped onion in half of the heated oil. Add diced tomatoes and braise for 5 minutes. In a separate pot, cook the mussels until the shells open. Add the remaining oil to the paella pan and throw in the chopped peppers, squid (cut into fine strips) and the rice. Stir gently. Then add the salt and broth. Stir continuously over medium heat.

In a separate bowl mix the garlic, parsley and saffron and stir this mixture into the rice mixture. Add the shrimp, mussels and peas and leave it to cook for about 20 minutes. After the rice is cooked and the broth has reduced, remove the pan from heat and let it rest for about 5 minutes. Serve with chunks of fresh lemon.

Simple recipes in Spanish language

A lot of the cuisine from Spain is often extremely simple to prepare, but this is all part of the appeal. When the ingredients are as fresh and naturally delicious then you don’t really need to do a lot before eating. A good example of this is the Tapas tradition that can be found throughout Spain. You can make your own Tapas at home with fresh bread, ham and other cold meats, cheese, seafood (calamari and clams), olives, meatballs, and baked potatoes. Make the portions small enough so that they are easy to eat by hand.

Vegetarian recipes in Spanish language

The most famous vegetarian Spanish recipe is the delicious Spanish Tortilla (although, as it is predominantly made of egg, this is not a dish suitable for vegans). Here is a Spanish Tortilla recipe (again with the Spanish names of the ingredients) for you to try:

Ingredients (Ingredientes):

Peel the potatoes, cut them in half and slice them into thin pieces. Peel and chop the onion. Mix the potatoes and onions together and add salt.

Heat the oil in a large frying pan. Put the potato and onion mix into the pan and spread evenly over the surface. The oil should almost cover the mixture. Adjust the heat so that the potatoes don’t burn. Leave the mixture in the pan until the potatoes are cooked, then remove the mix and set it aside.

Beat the eggs in a separate mixing bowl. Pour in the potatoes and onions and stir. Pour 1 or 2 tablespoons into a smaller frying pan and pour the egg, potato and onion mixture into the pan. Allow the egg to cook at the edges and the bottom. Use a plate to turn the tortilla over and cook the other side.

Latin American recipes in Spanish language

The main differences between Spanish and Latin American cooking basically come down to the availability of ingredients and affordability. Most Latin American countries are a lot poorer than Spain and that is reflected in the type of food that is most typical. A classic Peruvian dish that is currently making waves on the international cuisine circuit is Ceviche. This is made using fresh seafood and citrus juice. The acid of the citrus “cooks” the seafood and infuses it with a beautiful flavour. You can find many Ceviche recipes in Spanish language (and English if you prefer!) online.
